The scene you see today is of a quiet village, but that was not the case 1300 years ago. Archaeologists have uncovered some of the most important finds in the region. It seems that the quiet village of Fishtoft has had an extraordinary past, and was once the centre of a busy and bustling Saxon community, that flourished for 200 years.

All are invited to a Big Dig follow up meeting to be held at St Guthlac's Church Fishtoft.

The meeting will sum up the archaeological work that has previously been undertaken in Fishtoft, and discuss the exciting opportunity to publish a small booklet, on the History and Archaeology of Fishtoft. We are looking for enthusiastic people to help with the production of this booklet, the submission of articles and general ideas for the content, and further ideas for archaeological investigations in the village.

Following the meeting a small excavation in the churchyard will be taking place to investigate an unusual feature identified during the geophysical survey undertaken last summer. Volunteers for digging welcome-please meet in the church.

Sunday 2nd April 2006 at 11am

An Anglo-Saxon service of worship is to take place at St. Guthlac's Church, Fishtoft.  More details to follow.
